With regard to being asked/told to undertake duties that are normally carried out by other members of staff ( who get paid more to do those same tasks), you could refer to your job description - your pay grade is determined by the tasks/activities that are in your JD. You can ask your Union Rep for advice as well. If management insist that you carry out tasks for which you are not paid ( in your JD ), you have a legal right to request ( and get! ) a review of your JD - they can then include those tasks in the JD if they want you to continue doing them. The JD would then be reviewed and re-evaluated by your County HR Dept ( not school management), and a new ( higher ) pay grade allocated. It is an idea to take Union advice though prior to embarking on this process, because as I am sure we are all aware, management can be very good at 'wriggling' if your request involves more money!
At my school we are currently trying to get our JD reviewed to include all the 'extra duties' we undertake on a regular basis eg differentiating cover work where the teacher has failed to do so (and many other things!) - these tasks attract more points, which equal more cash, when a JD is evaluated by County.
It's a lengthy process, fraught with frustration, but we are determined that we will get paid for the job we are doing - on paper, the job looks simple and straightforward, but as we know, what we actually do in the classroom is far from simple and straightforward!
We have been working on getting our JD reviewed for over a year now, and spent many hours of our own time working on it ,but if that's what it takes to get the financial recognition for doing such a responsible job, then so be it!
